No Amount Of Populist Incarceration Will Injunct Me From Speaking Out - Abronye DC
The Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC has spoken for the first time after his arrest and bail on Wednesday. He said, no amount of populist incarceration will injunct me from voicing out his mind. The embattled regional chairman also told the media that he would also air his concerns
against the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare. In the coming days, I will come out with some personal issues I have with the IGP, he said. As for today, I’ll take the advice of my lawyers so that while going home, I’ll advise myself properly, he added. Abronye DC was initially arrested over a comment he
passed that former President Mahama was planning to stage a coup against government. According to media reports, the NPP communicator made the claim on Hot 93.9 FM in the Accra while responding to the arrest of #FixTheCountry convener, Oliver Mawuse Barker-Vormawor, who also threatened to stage a coup should
the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) be passed after the Majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu celebrated his 65th birthday with an E-levy-designed cake. In view of this, he was invited for questioning on Tuesday, February 15 at the Police Headquarters to assist with investigations. Abronye DC was subsequently arrested.
The Police, in a statement, revealed that the NPP regional chairman failed to substantiate his claims. He was therefore put before an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday after being charged with publication of false news offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace. This notwithstanding, Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP has been granted bail of 100,000 cedis with
two sureties. Commenting on his bail, he also said; I’m happy with the bail. As indicated by my lawyers, this is not an offence that they will deny me bail. That is why the court granted me bail. It was not like the Police were searching for me. I went to the regional police head office yesterday. They deliberately delayed me to keep me in custody. As a politician, I’m not afraid of things like this. This will not distract or worry me.
