We Need A Lot Of Investment Into the water Sector – GWCL

The Ghana Water Company Limited GWCL has called for more investments into the water sector. Speaking on Thursday, January 13, 2022, Head of Public Relations and Communications, at the GWCL, Mr Stanley Martey, stated that this will also enable them to provide quality and better services to consumers. We also need a lot of


investment into the water sector. Already, we don’t have the plants. The plans are there well documented. We have been going around looking for investors to procure but it’s a gradual process and we’re working towards it, he said. He was also contributing to the discussions that centered on recent erratic water supply in various



communities across the country. He clarified that the situation is partly due to the onset of the dry season, adding that an increase in demand due to the growth in population could also be blamed. He cited for instance, that Tema Community 25 and beyond has developed so quickly. We have a dedicated line that runs through that



area to the Prampram. But because all these areas are also drawing water from the same plant, it’s affecting Prampram as well. Nonetheless, he said the service is working tirelessly to resolve the challenge. So we are doing demand management in that area so that at least all of them could have some water during the week. But



we are trying to solve that problem by building a new plant around Aveyime, he added. He further entreated consumers who experience unexpected cuts in water supply without any explanation from the service to draw the attention of officials for situation to be addressed. If water doesn’t flow in your house for two days in a week



and you have not heard of any announcement from us, please report to our call centers and your problem will be solved, he said. He further dispersed assertions that the company is billing individuals although they do not have access to water. According to him, consumers are billed according to how much they consume. He, thus,



entreated any consumer whose tap did not flow in a particular month but has been billed, to report to our district offices and the adjustment will alsobe done. We serve our customers very well, he said.
